to put things v bluntly, the effects of the 2 atomic bombs were nothing compared to the atrocities committed by the jap army. it must have been traumatising living thru the jap occupation cos my granny still shivers whenever she talks about it.
but somehow, i do feel for the jap civilians. If the Emperor wasnt so thick skin to admit defeat or rather, if the emperor hadnt been so ambitious to negotiate the terms for surrendering, the bombs might not have been dropped. afterall there was no way out for the japs except to throw in the white flag.
