got invited to sit in for a mini seminar in prof ip's lab today. felt so honoured... but kinda guilty cos suppose to read quite a few journals beforehand but only managed to read 2 *keke* den this morning got lost in sci fac... so malu lor... spent 3 yrs there but still forgot how to get to S2 lol thank goodness got a kind student guided me thru the maze in S3 to get to S2.
i think prof ip's students are good... v knowledgable and well-read. but one thingy about the whole seminar i realise is that biology has gone very molecular. its been 4 yrs since i last touched bio (not the natural side) and i must say really lost touch liao. nowadays everything is genebank, sequencing, pcr etc. and to my surprise, these students noe nothing about phylogentic aka taxonomy. piang... was telling ah hock how we stayed back in lab for days to run cladistic during our uni time. how hard a time we had trying to id the various parts of the animals, to find similarity/differences etc and den to input all these and run the software. to think the students actually said today that they dunno wat phylogenetic is all about. sad sia...
